Spring Forward into Optimum Health in Mind, Body, and Spirit! By Kelley Brown

Spring is a time for new growth, new beginnings, new chapters, new thoughts on life, and on your own self. It is a great time to celebrate the sunshine, not only outside, but on the inside as well. Winter’s cold, and gray days, can weigh on all of us, turning even the most positive outlook a bit pessimistic. The time has come to proverbially shed our winter gear and embrace the lighter side of things, and yes, shedding winter boots for flip-flops too! Feel the warmth from  the sun on our face as we kiss our winter blues goodbye and notice how wonderful that feels! Letting go of winter and any negativity, will allow us to open our minds and hearts to positive thoughts and new exciting growth. I welcome the season of spring and I welcome the Spring inside each and every one of you and honor the light within each and every one of you!

Making Positive Adjustments by Carol Sullivan, LMT

I believe that one of the greatest benefits of receiving massage therapy is an overall increased sense of body awareness. Our culture encourages us to be constantly on the move and to always be doing something, often multi-tasking and doing several things at once! We are over-stimulated from computer use, television, texting, etc.  And,
because of these behaviors, we have an increased tendency to be living our lives “outside of ourselves” and cannot pinpoint what is actually going on within. Often, when I have a client who is new to massage therapy on my table for their first session, I hear things such as "What is that?”Or "I didn't even know I was sore there!" Spending some time on a massage table with the focus completely on your own body can be very enlightening and often brings awareness to those parts of ourselves that are in need of healing.

As a massage practitioner (and regular recipient) I am very “in touch “with what is going on in my body. And, right now, I am noticing that that I am way overdue for a chiropractic adjustment! There is a spot on my upper back that is reminding me of that quite intensely. In fact, I just phoned my chiropractor, Dr. David McMullen, for an appointment and, it
can't come soon enough! Chiropractic care has been so helpful to me and I often recommend this treatment protocol to my massage clients. Some have used chiropractic before and others are downright hesitant to “get themselves cracked” as it is often referred to incorrectly.  This is such a misnomer, especially these days when there are many techniques
available to chiropractic practitioners. For example, Dr. McMullen has a great new tool called the Impulse IQ Adjuster which contains a computer program within the adjusting tool that precisely measures how the patient's spine or other joints are moving during the process so that just the right amount of pressure is used to accomplish the adjustment. The technique is very subtle and the session is quite relaxing.

Massage and chiropractic are very effective treatments, used in combination, as the muscles connect and hold together the skeleton; therefore, the proper alignment of the bone structure is necessary for muscles to be functioning at optimal wellness. Because the bones and muscles are interconnected it makes sense that keeping both systems healthy will positively affect the entire body's wellness. Your Massage Therapist and your Chiropractor
should communicate with each other to determine in which order to receive treatments as it will vary with each client and situation.

So, perhaps it is time for YOU to make some positive adjustments?

A little bit about chiropractic:

Chiropractic is a gentle, hands-on, complementary medical discipline that
believes "true health is not merely the absence of disease, but the presence of physical,
spiritual and emotional well-being."
The philosophy of chiropractic is concerned with the intimate relationship between structure (anatomy) and function (physiology.) Chiropractors study a minimum of 7 years to become licensed physicians who treat people by looking for the actual cause of their problems rather than just masking their symptoms with drugs. Chiropractic is most commonly used to treat nerve, muscle and joint pain especially in the
  back, neck, arms or legs.
